According to legend, “The Coreth” were an ancient race that predated all other races in Corethandar. Long ago, their race began to dwindle and they knew that their time in Corethandar had come to an end. It was their destiny to begin civilizations and was their time to move on. They had forged a divine sword known as “The Giver of Life” or Guthbreoht to try to stall their inevitable doom. Guthbreoht proved too powerful and their plan backfired, for its power destroyed their best. At the time, two other races had also appeared in Corethandar, the elves and the dragons. Both races knew of Guthbreoht and its power. Before the Coreth left Corethandar forever, they entrusted Guthbreoht to the elves. For this, the dragons have held a grudge against the elves to this day. The Coreth warned the Elves to never let anyone wield the divine weapon save for its rightful master, someone the Coreth called “He who is clad in light”. With the Coreth’s assistance, the elves performed a magical oath binding their race to protect the blade. To this day, when Elves come of age, they perform the oath as a rite of passage into elven society.
